Credentials

Credentials are more than just a piece of paper.

Credentials provide the basis for confidence, belief, and credit. It is an attestation of qualification, competence, or authority. In Virginia, one of the most important credentials for mediation is Certification by the Virginia Supreme Court. In Parenting Coordination it is adherence to AFCC Guidelines.

As a consumer, you should know that titles and credentials can misrepresent a professional's ability to give you appropriate, knowledgeable service.

It can be impressive when you find a Mediator or Parenting Coordinator who has letters after their name. Some titles and designations have valuable significance; but others are simply misleading, or worse.

Experience

Divorce is much more than just a Legal Process......

Experience is personally appreciating that a separation and divorce can be the most stressful and hurtful event in anyone's life. Experience is recognizing the Emotional, Psychological, Financial components that many times outstrips the Legal aspects of the divorce. Experience is knowing how to navigate you through the waters of maybe the most catastrophic event in your life.

Credentials without experience can be of little value.

As the question sometimes appears, "Would you rather be on a ship in a violent storm with a Captain that has read some books on navigating a ship, or a Captain that has successfully navigated through similar storms."
